A sheriff in North Carolina who was caught on a recorded phone call using racist language and threatening to fire Black employees has reportedly resigned. Former Columbus County Sheriff Jody Greene resigned from his post on Monday. The Columbus County District Attorney’s office provided evidence when filing a petition last week to remove for Greene from office after the racist comments were made in a recorded phone call in 2019. An investigation is underway after two deputies were caught on video violently arrested a Black security guard. The incident happened on Sunday outside of a hookah lounge in Inglewood. In the video, the deputies can be seen trying to restrain the man while he is on the ground. A small crowd beings to surround the deputies, and at least once, one of the deputies can be seen pointing what appears to be a handgun at onlookers. Police said the incident happened Sept. 29 around 5:30 p.m. in the downtown area when the cyclist briefly entered the street while trying to avoid contact with a car being parking. Police in Ohio shot and killed a young Black man in his bed who appeared to be holding a vape pen in his hand. Columbus police said 20-year-old Donovan Lewis died at a hospital after he was shot early Tuesday morning. Officers came to Lewis' apartment to arrest him on multiple warrants including domestic violence, assault and felony improper handling of a firearm. A state funeral was held in South Africa for 21  people, all under 18 years of age, who mysteriously died at a bar late last month. The funeral was held Wednesday in the coastal town of East London. The woman was killed after someone shot at her on a street earlier this month and police are asking for leads.
