UPDATE: North Carolina sheriff resigns after racist comments about Black employees revealed
A sheriff in North Carolina who was caught on a recorded phone call using racist language and threatening to fire Black employees has reportedly resigned.
Former Columbus County Sheriff Jody Greene resigned from his post on Monday.
The Columbus County District Attorney’s office provided evidence when filing a petition last week to remove for Greene from office after the racist comments were made in a recorded phone call in 2019.

In the phone conversation, Greene called several Black deputies and sergeants "Black bastards."
Greene also threated to fire the employees. One Black personnel member was reportedly fired after the conversation, according to the DA's petition.
