Black woman assaulted, spit at by cab driver in New York who hurled slurs at her

Police announced on Saturday they are searching for a man accused of assaulting a Black woman who tried to intervene in a fight between him and another cab driver in New York. The 52-year-old woman offered to help when she saw two men fighting in the Midtown section of Manhattan when she saw a yellow taxi driver and a Pedi cab driver on Sept. 7, according to the New York Police Department. One of the two men hit the woman multiple times and spit on her while anti-Black slurs during the incident. The victim was not hospitalized. The incident is currently under investigation. 2 men convicted of using Grindr to commit armed robberies in South Carolina

Two men were reportedly convicted last week for using dating app Grindr to rob people in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Dlanor Tilton and Mazar Sturdivant were convicted on July 21 on two counts of armed robbery, reported WMBF News. Tilton did not appear for the trial, which began July 18. A warrant for his arrest was issued. Prosecutors reportedly said that Tilton and Sturdivant used Grindr to commit multiple robberies in December 2018, and that the victims were people visiting from out of town. The judge sentenced Sturdivant to 10 years in prison. Tilton’s sentence was sealed until he is arrested and brought to court. Bodycam video shows Chicago police shoot 13-year-old boy with hands up

Chicago police have released surveillance and bodycam video showing a 13-year-old Black boy with his hands up when he was shot. The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on May 18 near a gas station. According to police, officers were trying to stop a stolen vehicle suspected of being involved in a carjacking and kidnapping in Oak Park. When officers approached the vehicle, the 13-year-old boy got out and ran. Police said the boy turned and pointed a gun at the officer, yet no weapons were found. Chicago endured most violent weekend of 2022 with 7 dead, 37 injured

Gun violence reached a record high over an unusually warm weekend in Chicago that left seven people dead, and at least 37 people wounded. It was the highest number of shooting victims over any weekend so far this year, according to local authorities. The shootings spanned multiple suburbs and neighborhoods in the greater Chicago area, including Englewood, River North, Pilsen and Pullman. Last year was the most deadly in 25 years with 797 homicides, and 3,561 shootings reported in Chicago. Though not anticipated, 2022 could still outpace last year’s record violence.
