Ohio school board proposes banning anti-racism from school curriculum

A misguided group of school board members in an Ohio town proposed a ban that would exclude any curriculum that teaches topics that may be deemed anti-racist.

The board, which is almost completely (if not entirely) White, proposed the ban earlier this month. It includes teaching “Critical Race Theory.”

The superintendent has already vehemently denied CRT is (or has ever been) taught in K-12 Ohio schools.

The ban would prevent teachers from giving students assignments that have them think about race and culture, as well as gender identity and sexual preference, among other things.

This follows Ohio Republicans introducing a bill to the house earlier this month that prohibits schools from “teaching or providing training that promotes or endorses divisive or inherently racist concepts.”

The school board is scheduled to vote on the proposal tonight.

Opinion: Let’s be honest, it will pass. It seems no matter how much accurate information is shared, conservatives continue to peddle “Critical Race Theory” as a politicized attempt to brainwash children. CRT is not taught in K-12 schools anywhere, it is taught in college. It’s also quite benign — it educates students on how race is used in public policy making. But it includes the word “race” so of course, Republicans want to stir the pot when there is nothing in it. These school board members, and the parents who support this move, are so uneducated they need a picture diagram to get the fundamental moral issue here: Racism is wrong. If this is widely agreed upon then isn’t banning anti-racism giving consent to racism? Whose really doing the brainwashing here?
