A city employee in Illinois is under investigation after she allegedly called a Black man the n-word while he was working.
Phillip Robbin was parked in an alley and the woman, who is a city employee with city of Berwyn, was inside of a city vehicle when she confronted the man and told him to move his vehicle, according to CBS News.
The man said when he turned his back to her, the situation escalated.
“She was like ‘You cannot turn your back on me you fucking nigger.’”
Police were called to the scene and interviewed the city employee who admitted to using the slur and added “I am so sick and tired of these people.”
The employee is a blight inspector for the city. She was also a member of the school board, but has reportedly resigned following the incident.
Robbin showed a local CBS station he had a permit that allowed him to park in the alley when the incident occurred.
Robbin said he and his attorney met with the mayor who has apologized to Robbin for the city employee’s behavior, and said that the employee was verbally reprimanded, but Robbin doesn’t feel the mayor’s apology was enough.
An alderman has also apologized to the Robbin today for the mayor’s inaction.
