Atlanta Popeyes calls police on woman trying to buy food for homeless man

A college student says employees at a Popeyes in Atlanta of calling the police on her after she tried to buy food for a homeless man.

Jo Ortega, a Georgia State University student, recorded the ordeal on her cellphone when she was picking up a DoorDash order. She noticed a man outside who appeared to be hungry. She attempted to order food for the man at the drive-thru but employees denied her.

It wasn’t long before Atlanta police pulled up beside her. According to Ortega, the officers were understanding about the situation and commended her for what she was trying to do, reported FOX 5 Atlanta.

Video of the incident went viral.

A general manager for the location was made aware of the situation and reportedly offered the homeless man a free meal.

Popeyes corporate office has since issued a statement about the situation and said employees at the location have been retrained in how to deal with similar situations.
